As I’m writing this, I’m realizing that the last time that I did a book tag was in June. That was literally 6 months ago (I was on a break for like 4 of those months, but still). However, as the weather is getting colder, and since winter is just around the corner, I thought what better way to welcome the new season than a book tag since I’ve been neglecting my blog?
Also, I’m surprised that it hasn’t snowed snowed in my town yet. I live in a place with freezing winters and hot summers (the best of both worlds, I guess?). Last year, it snowed at the beginning of October. Right now, it’s really cold but not snowing. Hopefully it happens soon.
And finally, I hit 200 followers in November and am hoping to do a Q&A post. I’d love it if you’d just leave a couple questions in the comments section.
This tag was created by the YouTuber Katherine Barka, and you can find her original video here.
Snowflake: Something beautiful and always different. Choose a book that stands out, that is different from all the other books you’ve read.
I’m going to have to choose City of Shattered Light by Claire Winn for this prompt. It was so unique; cyberpunk, sapphic, morally grey characters and more. It was so unlike anything I’d ever read before— this one is going to stick with me for a long time.
Find my review here.
Snowman: It is always fun to make one with your family. Choose a book a whole family could read.
Kind of nervous since I have Indian parents and a younger sister, but I think one that’s appropriate is Scythe by Neil Shusterman. I think that’d it would be nice to read with others since it has so many questions of morality/different views on life. I’d love to discuss it with my family.
Christmas: Choose a book full of happiness that made you warm inside after reading it.
Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales fits this one nicely. I loved reading this, the characters were so well developed and lovable and the romance was so, so sweet. I was definitely filled with happiness after reading this.
Santa Claus: He brings wonderful presents. Choose a book you’d like to get for Christmas.
The whole An Ember in The Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir. I love these books so freaking much. They were one of the first fantasy series’ I’ve ever read and I still love them. They made me feel so many emotions and the writing is just gorgeous.
Snow Balling: It can be painful to be hit by a snowball. Choose a book that hurt, that made you feel some strong emotion, like sadness, or anger.
Counting Down With You by Tashie Bhuiyan, hands down. Let’s get a bit personal— Counting Down With You was the first book that made me feel seen and validated by. I can’t even explain how much that meant to me just by itself. I could relate to Karina so much; from her finding herself in books, her parents wanting her to become a doctor and saying that she was wasting her time reading books instead of studying the “important” subjects, to her anxiety and panic attacks. It felt like a letter from a wise, older sister telling me about how in the end, it was all going to work out. I loved it so much, and would give anything for that feeling again.
I can’t say that it was for everybody, but personally, it was one of the best books I’ve ever read. However, l can say that I cried myself a river, and a pretty large one at that (just ask my sister, who had the pleasure of being in the same room with me while I was reading this book).
Sledding: We all loved it when we were younger. Choose a book you loved when you were a child.
Um who says that I don’t love sledding anymore? I feel like the obvious answer for this one is Percy Jackson, but I’m going to put something else, just for some variety. I really loved reading Gordon Korman books, specifically the Ungifted series, the Unteachables and the Swindle series.
Frostbite: Choose a book you were really disappointed in.
You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao was a huge disappointment. I had seen dozens of reviews of people just raving about this book— the emotional impact it had on them, the writing, the characters. Unfortunately, I was not one of those people.
Reindeer: Something dear to us. Choose a book of great sentimental value to you.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard was one of the first YA books I’ve read. I remember just being shocked by the world building and the writing. It’s not a favorite anymore, but this was probably the book that started to set my expectations for writing (my expectations have changed, of course, but before this I didn’t really care about writing).

Thank you so much for tagging me! I just had to do the Tag as it sounded like so much fun ❤️ Red Queen also has sentimental value to me, I read it ages ago and had so much fun with the series, though I have since also read better Fantasy books 😄

Ahh no problem! I know, Red Queen was seriously so fun to read and yes, there are way better fantasy books but it was one of my first ones.
