Recommending Books Based Off Of My Favorite Songs

I’m pretty sure most of the book blogging community loves listening to music. And hey, I get it. A good song just gets you into a good vibe and I’m all for that. So, in this post, I’ll be combining two of my favorite things ever; books and music.

Also, I scrolled through all of my Spotify playlists for this post. But it won’t be all Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo.

And, let me know if you guys want a part 2 of this.

Gory and Gore by Lorde

Honestly, I have no idea what Lorde’s songs are about. But this post is all about ✨ the vibes ✨ But yeah. Lorde is seriously so cool, and this song makes me feel like I’m in the middle of a dystopian novel with a main character who’s not like the other girls. But in a good way.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir | This series is pain. But so freaking good. I think the reason I paired this with Gory and Gore was just because of the mood. They both feel like an epic, high fantasy story.

Secretly they’re saviors

Glory and gore go hand in hand

Jealousy, Jealousy by Olivia Rodrigo

This girl is 18. 18. She’s so talented, and I love her entire album (and who else knows her from her Disney channel days?) Anyways, I just really love her music.

Follow Your Arrow by Jessica Verdi | Jealousy, Jealousy is about the negative effects social media has on mental health, and Follow Your Arrow also talks about that too. Also, both of these pieces give me spring-y vibes.

Co-comparison is killin’ me slowly

I think, I think too much

‘Bout kids who don’t know me

The Man by Taylor Swift

The queen of song-writing has entered. I love Taylor’s music. The lyrics are always so beautiful.

Not Here To Be Liked by Michelle Quach | These two are so perfect for each other. They’re both about feminism and sexism and just how people act when there’s males versus females in leadership roles. Also, the romance in this book is just amazing.

I’m so sick of running as fast as I can

Wondering if I’d get there quicker

If I was a man

Superheroes by The Script

I didn’t really expect to like this song but it was stuck in my head for like a week so I’m pretty sure it’s good. This is the only song I’ve heard by The Script but I’m hoping to listen to more of them.

Renegades by Marissa Meyer | I literally can’t go one recommendations post without mentioning this book. But superheroes is literally the whole concept of Renegades.

That’s how a superhero learns to fly

Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power

War of Hearts by Ruelle

Ruelle and Lorde have pretty similar music styles (what I mean by that is that I can’t tell what their songs are about, or what the lyrics mean). I’ve just recently gotten into her music and I’m really loving it.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong | I know that this book doesn’t have that much of an emphasis on romance, but it’s there! And both of these have just gorgeous writing.

I can’t help but be wrong in the dark

‘Cause I’m overcome in this war of hearts

Falling by Harry Styles

I never really expected to like a Harry Styles song but holy crap this is so good. Raw and emotional and so beautiful. Just amazing.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer | I’m not going to say anything for this, except that I really love Marissa Meyer’s books.

What am I now? What am I now?

What if I’m someone I don’t want around?

I’m falling again, I’m falling again, I’m falling

No Body, No Crime by Taylor Swift

Another lyrical masterpiece. My favorite songs from Taylor are probably her story ones (think Champagne Problems and Exile).

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes | Both of these are about mystery and they both have elements of really messed up relationships. This is also the song I have playing on repeat while writing this post.

I think he did it but I just can’t prove it

No, no body, no crime

But I ain’t letting up until the day I die

What did you guys think? I’m trying a different writing style and I’m having a lot of fun with it. Have you read any of these books or listened to any of the songs? What did you think? Leave your thoughts on this post in the comments below!

  1. I legit thought of Renegades when I saw the word ‘Superheroes’ while reading your post haha! Though I haven’t heard a lot of those songs, most of the books on the list were really good ones!
