Welcome back, everyone! Sorry about all these tags, but I’ve been tagged a lot and I always find tags fun to do. Today I will be doing the Makeup Book Tag. I don’t like wearing makeup, or wearing anything fancy (I hate the term girly girl, as well as the word tomboy. They’re saying that all girls love makeup and girly things, and, in the rarity when a girl loves sports she’s called a boy? What century are we living in?), but this tag is so fun. Thanks to M @ Inking & Thinking for tagging me! Go check out her post, I really loved it!
Primer – Pick a book that left a lasting impression.
I love this book. It was one of the first books that got me into reading, and I can’t get enough of it. Besides, the entire series is really good, and Helene is a badass and I love her.
Foundation – Pick your favorite first book in a series.
I love Six of Crows so, so much. The writing, the characters and their incredible complexity, the story, the romance, it was all on ~point~.
Concealer – Pick a character you wish you could get rid of.
Ms. America Singer.
Can I hate the main character of the book? Yes, yes I can. Well, it’s either her or Aspen, who’s a sexist, chauvinist jerk. America Singer is ~not like the other girls~. This is straight from my review of this book— “She talks to her maids, she wears PANTS instead of dresses, she doesn’t want to get married to the Prince. *Me slow-clapping* Well done, America. YOU’RE A SAINT.” Yup, and much hasn’t changed since then.
Powder – Pick your favorite last book in a series.
This was so freaking good. I am a diehard fan of anything by Marissa Meyer, she has failed to disappoint me with her amazing books. And Winter was a masterpiece.
Eyebrows – A book you think everyone should read.
I really believe everyone should read Symptoms of Being Human. It provides a perspective on gender-fluidity that is lacking in both YA and middle grade. And besides, it’s a really good book.
Eyeliner – Pick a dark and mysterious book.
Well, a mystery has to be mysterious, right? At least a good mystery. Truly Devious is definitely a dark book, the talk of the murder that happened in the 1900’s is pretty dark, but I love the mood of the book just in general.
Mascara – Pick a Long Book.
I loved all 832 pages of this masterpiece. There’s a perfect balance between the perspectives of all the characters, and the story’s slow unwinding makes the book seem way shorter than it actually is. I loved the complexity of the story and how each of the characters meet in a turn of events that also starts building up friendships. And it was never monotonous. You know its a good book when you read all 800 pages of it but were never bored.
Blush – Pick a book that had a cringe-worthy romance.
*Covers face with arms*
Oh god. This book’s romance was way too cringy and stupid for me. I actually liked the Lonely Hearts Club, it was a 3.5 star read, but the sequel was horrible. I hate how it was so unrealistic. Um, yeah, I’d also love a sisterhood club thing where everyone supported each other and there were 30 girls who have nothing to do but listen to you complain, but, unfortunately, I live in the real world. And Ryan was so annoying.
I can summarize this entire book in a couple sentences:
- Penny has a lot of things to do. (But none of them are homework, apparently, yet she still gets perfect grades . . .)
- Penny blows off Ryan, Ryan gets mad at her and breaks up with her.
- Penny mopes around and her lemmings— oh sorry, her club comes and tries to help her, then Penny ends up in a situation where Ryan comes and needs to save her.
- Penny and Ryan get back together.
- *Insert fanfare*
Just, just no.
Highlighter – Pick a book that brightened your day.
I need at least 2 books by Marissa Meyer in each of these tags, right? To be honest, I feel like I couldn’t stop smiling during some of the chapters of this book. The banter and then the chemistry . . . ahh I love it.
Lipstick – Your favorite book kiss.
I can’t choose. I refuse to. But here are some of my favorites (Minor spoilers, bigger ones blanked out);
- Percy and Annabeth in the Last Olympian
- Helene and _____ in The Reaper at the Gates
- Nova and Adrian in Archenemies
- Cinder and Kai in Cress
- And more but my brain is not working today.
So I tag:
- Kaya @ A Fictional Bookworm
- Gauri @ A Book and Chai
- Abby @ Beyond the Read
- April @ Booked Till Midnight
- Katie @ Whispering Pages
- And . . . YOU! If you want to.
