What Music Should You Listen to While Reading?

Reading while listening to music can go both ways. On one hand, music helps with inspiration and creativity, it helps you escape to another world. But, listening to music while reading can also confuse your mind. For me, personally, I like listening either to instrumental music, or lyrical songs on a low volume. In this post, I’m gonna give you my best recommendations for lyrical songs to listen to while reading, depending on the mood or themes of the book.

That’s it! What do you guys think? I’m pretty proud of it, haha. I tried to put the types of music I would listen to, so there’s a lot of pop and some indie and alternative/rock. Do you have any songs I should add?

  1. Great post! I love to listen to music when I read, but most of the time I end up just putting it on a playlist or just putting my entire library on shuffle, I’m really not that coordinated in that department ksdjhskjdfh

I haven’t really listened to a whole lot of the songs here, but I do like a lot of alternative/indie/rock stuff – David Bowie, Radiohead, Spiritualized, the Beatles, Car Seat Headrest, and Snail Mail are some of my favorites 🙂

  3. I usually don’t listen to music while reading. Either I’m too absorbed in the book or I’m trying to get into it and then find the music disturbing. But yes, I like to listen to music on low volume when I’m brainstorming or blogging.
This is a very helpful post. Amazing playlists, Ritz! I would also recommend Flying Solo by Charlie Gillespie from Julie and the Phantoms series. It’s one of my favourite series that I love to binge-watch with my best friend.
